Succeeding in an Online Course
Before you begin your open entry class, you should first know how to succeed in an online course. Some of you may have taken online courses before; others are taking one for the first time. Whatever the case, taking a course online is much different from taking a course in a traditional classroom. Here are some pointers to make your online experience a positive and successful one:
- Be self-motivated and self-disciplined. No one will be standing behind you telling you what to do. It's all up to you!
- Get started right away. Even though it might be tempting to put it off, you will feel more a part of the class if you get started right away. In addition, it’s important to start right away so that you don’t fall behind.
- Be able to devote at least 2-3 hours per week to completing the requirements for this course.
- Read all instructions carefully and completely BEFORE you complete your assignments.
- Be willing to speak up if problems arise. This is the only way we will know that you are experiencing problems -- technical or subject matter.
- Be able to communicate effectively in writing. Most of our communication will be via email. Therefore, you must be able to clearly and concisely explain in writing any problems you are experiencing so that we can help.
- Check your email regularly -- at least every other day. Also, check the comment section in your grade book for feedback on assignments.
