Tips for This Assignment:  Be sure to include your last name in your file name and to label your PowerPoint Project with the following information:

Your Name and Section:   Example: Sally Smith CIS105 #1111

This project will be placed online for other students in your class to review (don't forget to check for spelling). Be sure to include your name and section number on your title page.

Grading

The grading criteria is available. You may want to use it as a checklist.  Bonus points are available if you use a sound clip from a song or a short video clip. (Remember, the files will need to be viewed online/and or downloaded so be aware of the file size.)

Note: Must meet the Grandma Test Guidelines:  your grandma & mine should be able to view it without embarrassment

Task

You will be using what you have learned about graphic presentations by creating a slide show. Decide the subject you want to do your PowerPoint presentation (project) on from the following:

  • Emerging Technologies (any new technology that interests you)
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • CIS/IT Careers
  • Robotics
  • System Development Life Cycle
  • Topic used in another class or service learning project this semester (see instructor)
  • Topic to be used in your workplace (see instructor)

(The topic must be appropriate -- use the Grandma test -- your grandma & mine should be able to view it without embarrassment- as well as your peers).   An example, if you have to do a presentation for a different class (or work), this is the perfect time to use it here too!   It's okay to have fun with it (as long as it is professional)!  You can also do this with a partner. If so, there are a few more requirements for the project (check it out below).

Process

  1. Select a subject from above, a current class, service-learning project, campus organization, or employer to complete this assignment.
  1. Post your topic in the PPT Topic Discussion Board (online students only). Others, sign up in class for your topic and presentation time.
  1. When the presentation is complete, be sure your file name has your last name included and upload it into the dropbox (along with any extra video, sound files)
  1. The presentation must consist of the following:
  • Title slide (include your name and topic)
  • At least 6 other slides containing clipart and/or graphics, proper layouts, and design.
  • Transitions and animation must be used in each slide.
  • At least one slide must contain WordArt or a drawn object.
  • Use appropriate sound effects (remember, don't "overdo" it).
  • Include a slide header or footer with your name/date/topic
  • Include a hyperlink to a related site (your web page?)
  • If you are using sound clips and/or video clips from outside of PowerPoint, be sure to include them when you upload your files (check your links for sound/video)
  • Online Students Only:  Include automatic timings for your presentation.  Note: Test the timings to ensure everything can be easily viewed.
  1. Remember, your peers will be reviewing your presentation (and you will be reviewing theirs).

Note: If working with a partner, minimum of 14 slides and sound clip must be different than included with PowerPoint as a default.
