Welcome to the Theatre and Film Arts Department! We are proud to be a renowned theatrical training program. We offer a well-rounded approach that gives our students a solid foundation from which they can use to excel in their chosen path. Our students transfer to the universities with more practical experience than their peer students who started at the University.
Did you know theatrical education provides a valuable base from which to launch careers in film, television, stage management, marketing, advertising, law, politics, theology, social work, and therapeutic fields among others? Having theatrical experience develops confidence and assurance that enables individuals to move from competence to excellence in whichever major or profession you have chosen.
We pride ourselves on our student/faculty ratio where individual attention helps you develop your unique voice.
The department’s seasons provide students with hands-on experience working with proffessionals from the local community as well as from across the country. This season brings guest artists Oscar Giner, David Vining and Jay Stratton to our department. Our students have the opportunities to act, design, write, direct and crew a variety of productions. We have two student driven groups, our club Stage Door Players (SDP), and Scripts On Strike (SOS). You do not need to be a major to participate in productions or SDP, an audition is required for SOS.
If your interest is film, we offer classes in the art of film from acting for the camera, the study of film to design. Our faculty has practical experience in front of and behind the camera as well as a few Emmy nominations. Did you know that many of today’s film artists have a theatre degree?
The Department of Theatre & Film Arts is an exciting place to be. We are glad that you are interested in the programs here at MCC and are happy to help you on your path.
See you in the theatre,
