It's So Easy to Help

You probably are already aware that student enrollment for the Fall 2009 semester has increased significantly at Mesa Community College. While the increased enrollment is great news for MCC, it has led to an increase in the number of students who encounter hardships affording the educational experience here.

The answer for some students is to apply for Federal financial aid, which includes grants, (funds that do not have to be repaid), and student loans, (funds that must be repaid).

A large number of students also apply for scholarships to pay for their tuition and educational expenses, but unfortunately, available scholarship funds have decreased in recent years.

In an effort to make the goal of attaining an education a reality for our students, MCC is kicking off the 2009 Employee Annual Fund Scholarship Campaign.

This scholarship campaign seeks to Make a Difference in our students' lives by providing much needed financial assistance.

The Annual Fund would be utilized to help those students struggling to cover the cost of items such as books and supplies all the way to graduation fees.

MCC employees have a history of generously donating to scholarships and college programs. My goal for this campaign is to raise the level of employee participation and scholarship donations even higher.

I challenge and ask each of you to make a donation to the Annual Fund. After Dr. Pan's recent announcement at The President's Forum regarding this Campaign, I received several new pledges and donations from employees.

Consider This Scenario

If every one of the more than 700 board-approved employees at MCC donated $25 annually, the College would raise $17,500 in new scholarship funds every year.

Another option is to make a pledge which is payable through payroll deduction; for instance, a $500 pledge payable over five years is equivalent to $4.16 per paycheck.

If every board-approved employee made such a pledge, MCC would raise over $70,000 in new scholarship funds each year. As you can see, MCC employees really can Make a Difference.
