Honors Program
Scholarships

There are two ways to receive money as a member of the Honors Program: 1) the Presidents' Scholarship and 2) the Honors Achievement Award. Any student receiving money from either scholarship is required to take a minimum of one – three credit Honors class.
Beginning Fall 2009 all Presidents' Scholarship Recipients must enroll in an Honors-Only Class. All scholarship recipients are automatically admitted into the Honors Program at MCC.
Honors Contract
All Presidents’ Scholarship recipients MUST take an Honors-Only class and we encourage Fee Award students to take an Honors-Only class as well. Presidents scholars must also complete a minimum of twelve credit hours including the - three credit Honors-Only class to be eligible. All Honors students must cpmplete a Contract in order to receive credit for an Honors class. Please complete the contract before submitting to the Honors Office in person, by mail, or fax.
You must contact the Honors Office before speaking with your instructor about taking their class for Honors Credit. Download and print the Honors Contract.
Please Note: No scholarship funds will be awarded until your registration is complete.

President's Scholarship Program
The Presidents' Scholarship is a tuition waiver that covers in-county tuitio, and the registration fee for up to fifteen credit hours for four consecutive semesters, excluding Summer sessions. At this time the monetary value is $1,080.00. Any remaining tuition balance above this amount is your responsibility.
This award does not cover additional class fees, books, private instructionl, music lessons, summer classes, or remedial classes (classes below the 100 level).
Award Receipients must meet the following criteria:
- Are U.S. citizens or legal resident.
- Graduate in the top 15% of an NCA accredited high school or charter school within Maricopa County. Class rank can be either 6th, 7th, or 8th semester.
- Students who are not in the top 15%, home schooled, or who graduate from a charter or private high schools that is not accredited may still qualify by scoring high enough on the college's placement tests.
- Students must still graduate from a Maricopa County high school.

- GED graduates are eligible by placement test scores only if the GED is completed before the individual's 19th birthday.
- The student must not have attended another accredited college or university before attending one of the Maricopa Community Colleges (except for summer sessions).
Upon graduation please request your transcripts indicating Graduation Date, Class Rank, and School Seal.
Honors Program / Honors Achievement Award
The Fee Award has been renamed The Honors Achievement Award and are available to students who meet the following eligibility requirements
- High School graduate, G.E.D. or equivalent.
- Have submitted a completed Honors Program application.
- Hold a minimum G.P.A of 3.25 or higher with a minimum of twelve completed credit hours (must be 100 level or above) at one or any combination of MCCCD college(s).
- Be enrolled in a minimum of one (1) – three (3) credit Honors class – preferably an Honors-Only class.
The award amount is based on the number of credit hours for which the student is enrolled. Awards are for Fall and Spring semesters only (does not apply to the Summer semesters). To be eligible a minimum of twelve credit hours must already be completed within the Maricopa Community College District.
The award amounts are:
- $325 for 12+ credit hours a semester
- $244 for 9 - 11 credit hours a semester
- $163 for 6 - 8 credit hours a semester
- $81 for 3 - 5 credit hours a semester
Retention: In order to continue to receive an Honors Achievement Award, eligible students must maintain a 3.25 GPA and successfully complete (earn at least a grade of C or higher) an Honors class each semester. Students who do not successfully meet all the criteria will not be eligible to receive a Honors Achievement Award the following semester. Students who have not met all the criteria must reapply to the Honors Program if they have not been participating in the Honors Program for more than two semesters.
Chancellor's Scholarship
This scholarship covers tuition and fees for one full year (up to 18 credits per semester [in County tuition]) plus $250.00 per semester for books and supplies. To be eligible, a current full-time Honors student must plan to enroll on a full-time basis for the following year and maintain a G.P.A. of 3.25 or higher. One scholarship is awarded at each college annually.
Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded based upon the college Honors Coordinator’s decision. Amounts can vary. Check with your Honors Coordinator for eligibility requirements. (* International Students are eligible to apply)
Betty Hedin-Elsner Scholarship
This scholarship is for $200.00 per year ($100.00 per semester) for one academic year. Eligibility requirement is that an Honors student reflects financial need. One scholarship is awarded annually. (* International Students are eligible to apply)
All scholarship applications are due by 5:00 PM Friday September 24, 2010 and must be submitted to the Honors Office located in the Cultural Sciences Building SC-14 or to the Center for Service Learning & Honors Program Office located on the second floor of the Mesquite Building RMM at the Red Mountain Campus.
