Honors Program

Fall 2010 Registration

Fall registration is now in full swing. Thank you to all that took advantage of the early registration. Make sure when you are building your schedule to create it around your Honors Only class.

Honors only classes tend to be conducted in a seminar format and will be a rewarding academic experience. You will need a permission number in order to self register for any Honors only class. Contact the Honors Office to obtain the permission number by phone or email.

See the list of Honors Only Classes here.

If you were interested in seeing an advisor, now would be a great time to go in to discuss classes for Fall and make sure you are on track with your program. We would like to remind you that the Honors Office does not do Advising. Carol Vaughan and Melissa Turnbull are the advisor designated for Honors students in the Advising Office at Southern and Dobson

Students Responsibility

It is the student's responsibility to contact the Honors Office in the event of any conditions that may effect their ability to complete any given semester. That includes, but not limited to health issues, school or personal problems.

Tuition

The Presidents Scholarship only covers tuition up to fifteen credits and the registration fee. At this time the monetary value is $1,080.00. If your tuition exceeds this amount, it is your responsibility to pay the additional amount. Students can be dropped from classes in which these additional fees have not been paid. You can pay additional fees either online through My.Maricopa or in person in the Cashiers Office. Please contact the Honors Office immediately If you have been dropped.

You must complete twelve credit hours each semester, including one-three credit Honors Only class, and have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.25 or higher in order to continue to the next semester. You do not need to reapply.

The Presidents' Scholarship is for four consecutive Fall and Spring semesters. It does NOT cover summer classes. You can still take a class for honors credit during the summer, but there is no money awarded. We do offer a deferment for those that may be serving a religious mission or internship. Graduating with Honors vs. Gradating from the Honors Program

Graduating with honors and graduating from the Honors Program are two different things. I compare them to 'gold stars', the more you have by your name, the better. Having both distinctions look good on any application or resume.

Graduating with honors is your over-all GPA designated as
• With Distinction (GPA 3.50 – 3.69)
• With High Distinction (GPA 3.70 – 3.89)
• With Highest Distinction (GPA 3.90 – 4.0)

Graduating from the Honors Program requires that you have
• Fifteen credits of Honors credits.
• One credit of Service Learning.
• A GPA of 3.5 or higher.
