Professional Organizations
There are numerous professional organizations within the design field which
provide the opportunity to participate in networking, continuing education, service
projects, or to receive recognition through competitions and to advocate for the
profession. A few of the professional organizations are shown below:
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the oldest and largest professional organization for interior designers. ASID was established in 1975, resulting from a merger of two interior design associations formed in 1931. With more than 30,500 members, ASID establishes a common identity for professionals and businesses in the field of interior design.
Interior Design majors are eligible for membership in the Student Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). The Student Chapter provides opportunities to interact with the professional design community and become involved in activities sponsored by the local Arizona North Chapter. The International
Interior Design Association (IIDA) is a professional networking and educational
association committed to enhancing the quality of life through excellence in interior
design and advancing interior design through knowledge.The Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER) provides the foundation for excellence in the interior design profession by setting standards for education and accrediting academic programs that meet those standards.
The National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) serves to identify to the public those interior designers who have met the minimum standards for professional practice by passing the NCIDQ examination. The Council endeavors to maintain the most advanced examining procedures, and to update continually the examination to reflect expanding professional knowledge and design development techniques. It seeks the acceptance of the NCIDQ examination as a universal standard by which to measure the competency of interior designers to practice as professionals.

leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are
environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.
The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) is a trade association dedicated
to the kitchen and bath industry that has been promoting education and ethical
business practices for 40 years.

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) is the recognized technical authority on illumination. For over 90 years, its objective has been to communicate information on all aspects of good lighting practice to its members, to the lighting community, and to consumers, through a variety of programs, publications, and services.
The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is dedicated to setting the global standard for lighting design excellence.
The International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) is a worldwide professional alliance of leaders representing the diverse industries that constitute the universe of residential and commercial furnishings and design. IFDA is the only all-industry Association whose members provide services and products to the furnishings and design industry.
The Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) is dedicated to the advancement of education and research in interior design. IDEC fosters exchange of information, improvement of educational standards, and development of the body of knowledge relative to the quality of life and human performance in the interior environment.
