Commission on Excellence in Education
Welcome

What an exciting time to be part of MCC's Commission on Excellence! The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National League of Cities recently awarded a three million dollar grant to the City of Mesa, Mesa Public Schools, and Mesa Community College. These three institutions will partner in Mesa Counts on College, with a goal of doubling Mesa’s college completion rate.
Congratulating them on winning this grant is a good start, but it certainly shouldn't be the end of what we do. Helping our young people complete a certificate program, finish their associate's degree, or graduate with a bachelor’s degree is a responsibility we all share. It will be a major focus for this year’s Commission on Excellence work.
College completion is more than something we should encourage in Mesa; it is something we should expect. It's the only way our young people will be ready to compete in a global economy. We need to be part of the solution. After all, this is one measure of excellence that we simply must achieve.
